Last year and a lot of the race my word that I have been trying to grow in has been surrender. As the new year was approaching I started praying into what I wanted my word for 2023 to be, whether the lord wanted me to continue diving into surrender or switch to a new word. Throughout my time in Guatemala the lord highlighted the word Holy to me. What holiness looks like for him and then for me to be called holy as well. From my short time diving into this new word, here is what I have learned.
Holiness referring to the father looks like him being:
-morally perfect in everything and set apart from all sin.
(Isaiah 6:3 “Holy, holy, holy, is the lord God almighty; the whole earth is full of his glory.”)
-blameless and free of blemish
(1 Peter 1:19 “but with the precious blood of Christ, a lamb without blemish or defect.”)
-completely worthy of worship.
(Psalm 145:3 “Great is the Lord and most worthy of praise; his greatness no one can fathom.”)
When God calls us to be holy it look like being
-set apart for him
(Psalm 4:3 “Know that the Lord has set apart his faithful servant for himself..”
-living as his holy priesthood by offering ourselves as living and spiritual sacrifices.
(1 Peter 2:5 “You also, like living stones, are being built into a spiritual house to be a holy priesthood, offering spiritual sacrifices acceptable to God through Jesus Christ.”)
-totally devoted and dedicated to the father
(1 Peter 1:15-16 “But just as he who called you is holy, so be holy in all you do; for it is written: Be holy, because I am holy.”)
If you don’t know this about me, I dislike trends with a literal passion. I can’t stand to be like everyone else and before you even say anything, there are things I do, say, or wear that are the same as others, I know that. Still I strive so hard to be my own person, that is away from the norm. With learning about the meaning of the word Holy, it’s become a game. A game of how set apart or different I can be from the world and the people in it, while being set apart solely for the lord.
The father has specifically placed this word on my heart and I believe this is something that he calls us all into. Being a faithful follower of Jesus looks like being set apart for him and living different than the rest of the world. The hard part is it’s easy to suck into the comfortability of what the world offers, but the blessings that come from living holy lives is so much greater than that. It’s a choice. A choice that is going to require sacrifices we have to be willing to make.
The lord calls us holy so it’s time for us to live like it.
Really love this Brooke!
